Jooney Woodward, a British photographer who lives and works in London. Jooney’s work most often documents the British at leisure, seeking to identify, visualise and explore the connection between lifestyle and identity in rural Britain. She was awarded the Taylor Wessing Prize in 2011, and has been exhibited widely.
Shot between July and November 2013, this portrait series captures riders from a range of equestrian events at both amateur and professional levels in the UK.
In an interview with the Courtauld Institute of Art, Jooney said of her approach; “I don’t like chasing the photo… people see you with this massive camera and they react differently to it … I think my stuff is quite composed, rather than action shots. It’s all about the opening few minutes of a relationship. I want to capture how they were feeling before I came up to them.”
